The Persian cat is officially known as the Longhair in Britain and is one of the oldest cat breeds in existence and it originates from Iran. The modern day Persian cat is believed to have been crossed with the Angora cat from Turkey. Persian cats are known for having a friendly, loving temperament. They have a short muzzle, long think coat, wide set ears and large eyes. In great Britain each coat colour type of Persian cat are considered a different breed. The White Longhair (White Persian) is calm and generally sociable with other cats. There are three types of White Longhair Persian cats being: blue-eyed, orange-eyed and odd-eyed. The Black Longhair (Black Persian) is as its name suggests, jet black in colour. A true black colouring is very tricky to breed. Red Longhair (Peke-Face Persian) is breed for its facial features to resemble that of a Pekingese dog. Their coat is a brilliant, rich red colour. Cream Longhair (Cream Persian) as their name suggest have a cream coat in colour with dark orange eyes. The Smoke Longhair (Smoke Persian) variety is generally black, blue or grey in colour and came as a result of cross breeding Blue, Black and Chinchilla Persians. As with all Persian cats, grooming is required daily to prevent matting of their luxurious, silky coats.
