Developed in Belgium, the Belgian Shepherd Dog was bred to herd and guard cattle and sheep. They are a large, slim-lined animal possessing great speed and agility. The Belgian Shepherd Dogs come in four different colours with three different coat types. The two types that sport a straight, long coats are the Groenendael being black in colour and the Tervueren which is red, fawn or grey. The Malinois is the smooth, short coated type that comes in red, fawn or grey. The Lakenois has a wiry coat that is usually red in colour. The Belgian Shepherd must be given adequate exercise. This dog breed is not for the un-experienced dog owner as their natural instinct is to guard and protect.
