A native of Belgium, the Bouvier Des Flandres was developed as a working dog to herd sheep and cattle. They are thick-set with a rough wiry coat which is mainly black, fawn or brown in colour. Along with its harsh coat the Bouvier Des Flandres also sports a moustache and beard, this together with its large size and solid body tends to give it an intimidating look. The Bouvier Des Flandres coat can be quit demanding to groom due to the wiry texture. This dog breeds temperament is generally loyal and composed, adding to its increasing popularity as a family pet.
