The British Bulldog is a direct descendant of ancient Mastiffs from Asia. Bulldogs were originally bred for bull baiting in the 13th Century, hence the name 'Bulldog'. The Bulldog can easily become short of breath and should not be walked in the heat of the day. They have a short coat that is relatively easy to keep clean.
