The Dachshund dog comes in six different varieties. They vary in weight and coat-type though all share a similar body shape. Dachshunds are a short-legged, elongated breed of the hound family. Dachshund translates into “badger dog” as it is thought they were bred to hunt badgers in Germany. They are sometimes referred to as a “sausage dog”.
