The German Pointer was developed in Germany, approx 100 years ago, thought to be derived from the Spanish Pointer, English Foxhound and a Scenthound. This dogs coat is either short and smooth or thick and harsh, muscular body and keen sense of smell. The German Pointer requires regular exercise to expel excess energy due to a high-work rate. The Short-haired pointer is generally easy to train while the Wire-haired is known to possess some aggressive qualities.
