Originating in Japan, the Japanese Akita, or simply Akita, is Japans national dog. The Akita was originally bred as a working dog to hunt, guard and herd. This visually impressive dog is the largest of the Japanese Spitz dogs. Double coated, with a thick, plush outer coat, grooming should be done frequently. The Japanese Akita is muscular and fit and as such requires frequent, regular exercise. The Akita can be quite dominating and bossy, though on the other hand affectionate to their friends and family.
