The Newfoundland, as its name suggests, originated as a working dog in Newfoundland. Newfoundland's are well know for their massive size and swimming abilities due to partially webbed feet. Their coat is waterproof, being thick and oily, and most commonly black, brown or white in colour. Grooming is demanding and needs to be done regularly to maintain their magnificent coat. This water loving dog is not one for the urban household, far better suited to acreage living. Newfoundlands are intelligent, courage's and very loyal to their owners.
