The most common of the two Welsh Corgi dog breeds is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. As with it Cardigan Welsh Corgi cousin, the Pembroke also is longer than he is tall with high set erect ears giving a fox-like appearance. Its name derives from Pembrokeshire, Wales, where this dog originated from. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are known around the world for being the preferred breed of the British Royal Family for more than seven decades. They sport a straight, thick coat which is relatively easy to groom. Most common coat colouring is red and white. Being a natural herding dog, Pembroke Welsh Corgis sometime have the urge to nip the heels of humans rather than cattle! They are an intelligent breed of dog, and as most working dogs are they are also rather athletic. Pembrokes are loyal and due to their intelligence, generally easily trained.
