Originally breed in Mongolia approx 4,000 years ago, the Chow Chow was in later years introduced into China where it is known as "Songshi Quan" which translates into "Puffy Lion Dog". This Spitz breed is known for its thick puffy coat and black mouth and tongue and is a popular pet dog. Colouring of the coat is typically red, black, blue or cream. The Chow Chow is generally a very relaxed breed of dog, more often than not moving slowly. Grooming is high maintenance to keep their plush coat in good order.
